Trying out a new plugin I wrote to bypass local storage for avatar uploads. If you upload an avatar on this site you’ll notice it’s all served from Amazon S3. This should fix the issue of not supporting user and group avatar uploads on BuddyPress.org due to the multi-server setup.

Testing out a followers plugin in place of friends on this site. I’ve built it for BuddyPress.org but will be releasing it alongside 1.2.4.

I am posting this from my ”Following” tab. How do I work?
-
Looks like it works okay!

Mr. Peatling, you have out done yourself!
-
this is really great!! just what i needed! well done!
possibly hashtagging capability to start topics coming soon??? -
WANT!!
This almost answers my question for you,Andy. Where is this followers plugin? (Shame I ”lost” my many friends now… I’ve been working hard on that, you know
) -
This could be hugely useful. Expedite!
-
I see there is no possibility to invite poeple to a group?
-
Just use the invite-anyone plugin so that group invites aren’t depended on ”friends”
-
-
yeah looks great !
However, in terms of priority I would rather prefer to have ”Privacy Features” implemented into BP. -
What’s the latest? I’ve been looking forward to this plugin being available. Is it ready yet?

Hi…
Can we change the buddypress plug in child theme?
For example:
bp_core_new_nav_item(
array(
’name’ => __(’Messages’, ’buddypress’),
’slug’ => $bp->messages->slug,
’position’ => 50,
’show_for_displayed_user’ => false,
’screen_function’ => ’messages_screen_inbox’,
’default_subnav_slug’ => ’inbox’,
’item_css_id’ =>…[Read more] -
Andy,
I am familiar with the plug-in but I would like to suggest that you consider the Facebook Connect integration to be part of the core functionality and not as a plug-in.
Something like here: http://www.jomsocial.com/community.html
Thoughts?

Andy Peatling started the forum topic Forums Reset in the group
BuddyPress Testers: 2 years, 2 months ago
The group forums have been reset due to the recent WordPress version switch. Most discussions were just testing messages. Apologies if your actual discussion thread was deleted. I’ve re-enabled forums on the most popular groups, however if you receive an error when posting to a group forum, please check that the forum is enabled for [...]

This site is now running on standard WordPress. I believe this will be a better testbed since the majority of BuddyPress users will be using this version going forward.

Hi Andy,
I put this on the test blog before I realized questions there don’t get answered. Sorry.
I am going to use BuddyPress with more than one blog, or at least with more than one distinct subject. But I still need to link the subjects because they are related, like science and science politics. I don’t yet fully understand the power of…[Read more]

@guerrillabeauty Sounds like you have not created a .htaccess file in your root WordPress directory. If you update your permalinks again you will notice a message at the bottom of the page that tells you what you need to do.

@guerrillabeauty Have you enabled permalink support in WordPress and moved all the templates to your active theme?

Only supports JPG files right now, I’m fixing this.
I got a success message with a JPG, but blank images at cropping step. Tried uploading from multiple browsers. I’ll try again in a bit.
Thanks, give me 20 mins, just fixing a few bugs.
Give it another shot now and see if it works.
Good to go. Crop area was large (466px x 466px) but it works great.
The actual selection box, or the image itself?
Selection box was large. Preview box was normal. Here’s a full-size screenshot – http://davidtcarson.com/cdn-crop-preview.jpg
My original image was 150×150 JPG.
Just changed my Avatar – upload worked fine. I had to refresh after upload and the reply box still shows my old avatar. Maybe just an issue of caching?
Yes there’s a caching issue right now, but a hard refresh will fix it.
Yep i can confirm that – it’s working now for me.
@andy – could we ditch bbpress as mentioned here (http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/forums-based-on-activity-items-instead-of-bbpress). Activity-Stream is so much more intuitive, it just needs an title option.
No don’t ditch the forums.
Instead I would want an option to disable the Activity stream (except for profile status messages) and only keep the forums active.
I think this is all strongly dependent on how the theme brings things together. Having a good visual separation between the two components is where the merit lies in having both of them.
On many sites, the forum is the center of the website, and the users’ activity is a bit of an afterthought. I think because BuddyPress puts the activity at the…[Read more]
Different horses for different courses.
@andy @simon2 – i was more thinking of keeping the forums (for detailed discussions) but rebuild them with the technology of the activity stream. In this way Forums would benefit from regular developments like ”Buddypress Like”, ”BP-Albums” ect. And we could directly reply from within the activity streams!
Yes that could be a good idea. At the moment I think its a bit confusing and annoying that if I, in the activity stream, reply to a comment made in a forum topic it won’t be displayed inside that topic.
It’s an interesting idea, but you’d need some way to distinguish between a forum activity stream item and a regular activity stream item. Something could be done with activitymeta and a custom template… worth investigating.
@andy Can you please make the Amazon S3 Avatar plugin you wrote available?
