I figured it out. We can have as many fields we want, the option is there in the Admin profile setting.

Hi, Is there any way we can elaborate the profile setting with more fields and details. As of now when someone clicks the profile it shows only the name field. It would be better if we can have better profile details like interests, website name, etc

Unless you mean having more than Name appear by default, you can change that.
In my regular WP2.9.2 setup with BP, there are 4 items under the Buddypress item in the dashboard. One of them is “Profile Field Setup”.
Click it and near the table that lists that one, and only field, click the Add New Field link.
Add as many fields as you want…[Read more]
