I have a local test install of WordPress MU, with BuddyPress. I have added a couple of bp users and groups. Made the users members of the groups. But when log in as one of those users, and go to Forums -> New Topic, I get no groups listed in the “Post In Group Forum:” drop-down at the bottom. What is the difference between posting an update in a group (filling in the What’s new in…. box) and creating a forum topic in a group?
