Arx Poetica posted a new activity comment: %s Yeah…BuddyPress has been going for a few years now, but it really started to gain momentum in 2008/2009. I’d say it’s just starting to enter a more mature, community-ready state w/ the release of version 1.2 (which will happen in just a few days).
andy posted a new activity comment: %s Yeah I can think of a lot of uses for this… will be watching closely… Bit confused…. can this be installed on a standard Wordpress installation?
Arx Poetica posted a new activity comment: %s Yes. It’s actually an incredibly easy install. If you’ve installed WordPress and have it running, you can just search for ”BuddyPress” and install that as a plugin. Very little work to do. There are instructions over @ buddypress.org for how to install it: http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/
While it currently runs only on WordPress MU, that is changing w/ this next release which will run on just WordPress alone.
If you want to get more advanced, you can create your own custom child themes. http://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ (These instructions are for the latest release.) My site runs on BuddyPress, and I’ve created my own custom theme: http://arxpoetica.com/
andy posted a new activity comment: %s Wicked thanks yeah I was looking through the installation docs and noticed it only mentioned Wordpress MU which I don’t have much experiene of… Will definitely be using this in the future!
cprpoker posted a new activity comment: %s The new 1.2 release candidate can, thats what I have been waiting for! Had my eye on it for the last year
andy posted a new activity comment: %s Excellent… seems I’ve rolled up at just the right time… yeah I saw in all the documentation that it only mentioned Wordpress MU but then the layesyblog post about release 1.2 was asking for Wordpress testers… will have to get this up and running on our test server at work.. Nice!
andy posted a new activity comment: %s Anyone tested it on standard Wordress install… any initial ideas on stability?
cprpoker posted a new activity comment: %s I am not in production yet, but have it running in WP 2.9.1. Pretty stable. plan to roll it out in the next few weeks.
Arx Poetica posted a new activity comment: %s it’s pretty darn stable.
andy posted a new activity comment: %s excellent thanks guys… seems like a pretty vibrant community here… will have to visit again some time… peace
