I’m trying to find out whether I’ve discovered a bug, or whether it’s related to the plugins / theme customisations… hence I thought I would test here – and the behaviour is different (although still not as expected).
This is a WP + BP website we’ve taken over responsibility for, and are upgrading (WP, BP, Customised BP Daily…[Read more]

In reply to: Mark Wilson posted an update @johnjamesjacoby, @andy, @boonebgorges, or @djpaul where is the chat feature in this demo service? ViewYes I got the email notification right now. But. The items is waaaaaay down here on the page. And I don’t think the page auto-refreshes with ajax… so users will have to refresh regularly, which sucks. @johnjamesjacoby, @andy, @boonebgorges, or @djpaul

mark, does this notify you immediately?
-
Perhaps the ”message” feature serves as the ”chat”
-
I was thinking about the FB live chat, which in FB doubles as messages as well. Im looking through the plugins to see if there is a chat. http://buddypress.org/extend/plugins/?page=9

Perhaps the Admin panel will allow ascendant or descendant listings of the messages… I like the most recent at the top
-
Yes it’s no use having a reply all the way down the page. It’s not visually highlighted either. I only know it’s there because I see it in my email. I think mentions should include responses to threads Im involved in. And I think mentions should dynamically update using ajax and change color to red if there is new activity. Maybe with the title…[Read more]

BUT. This is an amazing project. A very good start because the plugins absolutely rock.

@kvenner This is what we are looking for http://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-activity-stream-bump-to-top/ This plugin will “bump” an activity record to the top of the stream when an activity comment reply is made.
-
OK, Mark, thanks, that will help us for sure.

Ur welcome.

@kvenner And another plugin that might help http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-stream-ajax-notifier/ this will check for a new activity stream item every few minutes and display a simple message.
-
-
There is no ”chat feature”

K.

@kvenner I found an ajax fb type chat http://buddydev.com/buddypress/bp-chat-a-facebook-like-chatting-plugin-for-buddypress/

And another chat plugin http://buddypress.org/community/groups/envolve-chat/

@johnjamesjacoby , @andy , @boonebgorges , @micheal and @djpaul : Why can not I install plugins for bbPress forum in BuddyPress? I wish I had a Wordpress with + bbPress + BuddyPress together, where i can put plugins could make my way bbPress forums.
-
We are gradually moving towards that in each iteration. It is still possible to do, but you need to write a WordPress plugin to do it.
As a general note, please don’t mass the entire core team unless something is broken or on fire.
-
Thanks. Sorry, but i have a lot’s of questions to ask for you creators. I’m making my social network with wp and bp, it’s very cool.
-
Thanks. You’ll have better luck asking in our support forums. This is just a site we use to test out the development version.

ok, thanks again!!

Fee posted an update 9 months, 2 weeks ago
@boonebgorges – belongs to ticket #3458 – I think as a super admin you’re able to see all my activities on my just-me. The issue is for example on the comment to ”Fee joined the group BuddyPress Testers” … ”If I post long comments…”
-
I don’t understand. I don’t see a ”Fee joined the group BuddyPress Testers” activity item anywhere. Can you give me the permalink?

oh, sorry, I mean here: http://testbp.org/members/wdfee/activity/just-me/ Just look for ”If I post long comments…” it’s the next to last one
-
on the permalink are no comments at all http://testbp.org/activity/p/106307/
-
sorry, wrong, they are there but without Read More, so you cannot recreate it there
-
I still don’t see it, sorry. Your just-me page does not have a ”Fee joined the group…” item, or a ”If I post long comments…” item.
-
Really? Ok, on another’s user activity page I found all the ”joined-group” activities on the groups tab. Maybe you find it here: http://testbp.org/members/wdfee/activity/groups/
I found mine there in the middle of scrolling down the page.I really don’t understand this issue, on the other’s comments it works.
-
Still not there. At some point did you delete that activity item? That might explain at least some of the problems.

@johnjamesjacoby @andy @boonebgorges Does the new buddypress theme scale down as easily as the Wordpress TwentyEleven Theme? (Looks great on any screen, computer, cellphone.) That would be sweet.

Why are activity feed profile photos in different sizes for different types of updates (i.e. User just joined [with tiny photo]; User posted a activity comment [with medium-sized photo]; and User replied to a forum topic [with large photo]? Makes the activity feeds look messy and unbalanced. @andy @johnjamesjacoby @boonebgorges @djpaul
-
Please don’t ping all of us like that. No reason to wake all the dragons.
Do you think other social networking software looks messy when it does this same thing?
If you have a better design idea, let’s see it!
-
I summon you all! Sorry about that
SocialEngine, Elgg, and Facebook don’t do this, though. Facebook makes photos just a tad smaller for comments, though – but all feed profile photos are the same size.
Just saying

@johnjamesjacoby @andy @boonebgorges @djpaul Thanks for a great product! One easy question: The menu on this site is different on the one I’ve just installed, yet you say these are default settings. This site runs the latest dev version of BuddyPress, and adding ability to use the WordPress Menu system is one of many enhancements. You’ll have to use BuddyPress trunk, http://svn.buddypress.org/trunk/, to get it for now. No guarantee that the dev version is stable and bug-free, but if you spot anything broken, do let us know
-
Thanks Paul. The dev bit explains it. I’ll have a look!

By the way – I haven’t been able to access the plugin site since late yesterday. It shows the header and the main nav-bar, but no plugins and no footer.

Please open a ticket on http://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org explaining what you’ve explained here. Thanks.
