1. You probably didn’t use your gravatar email to sign up with.
2. The global timeline is on the front page.
3. You will need to filter the signup process to do this via a plugin. You can ask specific support questions at: http://buddypress.org/forums/

Hi Andy
yes same email ..i only use one globally
i dont see an option for a front page
can you recommend a plugin ..please?
could you also go to my site, sign up and you can see the problems
thank you

Different horses for different courses.

@andy @simon2 – i was more thinking of keeping the forums (for detailed discussions) but rebuild them with the technology of the activity stream. In this way Forums would benefit from regular developments like ”Buddypress Like”, ”BP-Albums” ect. And we could directly reply from within the activity streams!
-
Yes that could be a good idea. At the moment I think its a bit confusing and annoying that if I, in the activity stream, reply to a comment made in a forum topic it won’t be displayed inside that topic.
-
It’s an interesting idea, but you’d need some way to distinguish between a forum activity stream item and a regular activity stream item. Something could be done with activitymeta and a custom template… worth investigating.

BuddyPress adds more load since it’s fetching and displaying much more dynamic information. If you’re concerned there are ways increase the performance of your server: http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/improving-performance/

There’s a pretty solid album plugin that should suit your needs: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-album/

Yes there’s a caching issue right now, but a hard refresh will fix it.
-
Yep i can confirm that – it’s working now for me.
-
@andy – could we ditch bbpress as mentioned here (http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/forums-based-on-activity-items-instead-of-bbpress). Activity-Stream is so much more intuitive, it just needs an title option.
-
No don’t ditch the forums.
Instead I would want an option to disable the Activity stream (except for profile status messages) and only keep the forums active.
-
I think this is all strongly dependent on how the theme brings things together. Having a good visual separation between the two components is where the merit lies in having both of them.
On many sites, the forum is the center of the website, and the users’ activity is a bit of an afterthought. I think because BuddyPress puts the activity at the…[Read more]

Only supports JPG files right now, I’m fixing this.

I got a success message with a JPG, but blank images at cropping step. Tried uploading from multiple browsers. I’ll try again in a bit.

Trying out a new plugin I wrote to bypass local storage for avatar uploads. If you upload an avatar on this site you’ll notice it’s all served from Amazon S3. This should fix the issue of not supporting user and group avatar uploads on BuddyPress.org due to the multi-server setup.

Just changed my Avatar – upload worked fine. I had to refresh after upload and the reply box still shows my old avatar. Maybe just an issue of caching?

Andy, I am just about to start work on a new community site at http://virtualcrowds.org and I am using a modified form of the standard BuddyPress theme. I have it installed on WP3 RC2 and it seems to be working fine. Question: Is there a modified version of the standard theme due out in line with the release of WP3? The reason I ask is that I…[Read more]
