You can turn this option off, or just use standard WordPress where the option is not available.

In reply to - Ernie M posted an update: What’s new? Not much. I’m just testing this little BuddyPress app out. I do have a concern with allowing each of my users to have their own blog so I am hoping that I can manage that section. I also hope that their blog will adopt my sites look and feel. [...] · View

@guerrillabeauty Sounds like you have not created a .htaccess file in your root WordPress directory. If you update your permalinks again you will notice a message at the bottom of the page that tells you what you need to do.

@guerrillabeauty Have you enabled permalink support in WordPress and moved all the templates to your active theme?

More than likely that is the problem. Perhaps it is corrupting or wiping the WP login cookie?

Groups are containers. They can have a forum and be extended with lots of extra functionality. A group could have a gallery, file repository, wiki, activity stream as well as a plain old forum.

In reply to - Dave posted an update in the group Does anyone else think BuddyPress is a confusing mess? : ”Confusing mess” is maybe a bit strong, but I’m suffering from some confusion on first look. No, but perhaps if you explained your problem a bit more we can help you out.

It only uses your latest update, no sense in using a comment since it’s out of context.

In reply to - erich73 posted an update: at the members-directory (just besides the username), it always shows the latest ”Update” from each user. On my local install, I discovered that this is actually NOT showing the LATEST comment (update). Looks like a bug ? · View

Groups are containers and are much more powerful than forums. For example a group could have a forum, document repository, activity stream, blog and sub pages. Forums are just one feature of groups.

bp_get_current_group_name() almost all template functions have an equivalent get_() function that will return instead of echo.

In reply to - Chris Foster posted an update: Anyone know which function calls the group name as a value, and not just echo’ing it? It seems bp_current_group_name(); is simply echo’ing the value to browser. And i need this value in my code. · View

Rename your plugins folder then refresh the page, that will deactivate everything.

In reply to - jamie marsland posted an update: Just upgraded my site from 1.2 to 1.2.1 and it completely broke everything. It’s just a test site so no problem for me. I didn’t deactivate any bp plugins and just went for the auto upgrade. Beware. · View

Unfortunately it’s a process of letting these plugin developers know how to build plugins that will fail gracefully if BuddyPress is present. For now it’s best to make sure all BuddyPress dependant plugins are deactivated before upgrading.
