I’ve seen several people here comment that they prefer Elgg to BuddyPress. Although this site is interesting, so far I am slightly disappointed with it.

I have now set my blog settings to fully public (and indexed by Google), so hopefully this will appear in the root URL activity stream (BuddyPress).

There is no RSS aggregation because BP is built on the blog (WP) model. -

To me it feels more like NingInABox rather than FBInABox, but http://testbp.org does give an aggregated lifestream. I don’t much like the way blogging is separated off.
