BuddyPress Integrations

Public Group active 1 hour, 27 minutes ago

This group is for people to discuss and express their interest in WordPress MU and BuddyPress integrations with other scripts (ie MediaWiki, Open-Realty, phpMyDirectory etc).

These powerful integrations could be essential in completing a full fledged community environment. I hope others will join and contribute to this powerful vision.

Has anyone experiment with BuddyPress and Elgg? What did you think of each?

I meant experimented with them separately not integrated them which would be silly.

Even though I have not implemented Buddypress yet, I would still recomend it and not Elgg. I have installed Elgg about a year ago for a client and it is terrible. User unfriendly. Now we are upgrading to the newest version, its a nightmare. I wish I would have chosen to migrate to Buddypress instead of upgrading.

Elgg is not for a beginner. There isn’t much help from developers either. Here you can pretty much ask @Andy something and he or another dev will jump in.

I have tried both for the same project. I am a designer and not a programmer so I gave up on Elgg and tried BuddyPress instead. I found it easier to set it up and customise it. And there are more plug ins around for Wordpress than for Elgg. If you want to combine Buddypress with other WordPress plug ins you have to check for compatibilty. I also tried Dolphin which has events and a payment system on board but I also was a bit lost when customising it.

I’m currently developing a elgg-esque site using buddypress, wordpress single user and TDO Mini Forms. Works great!

Have tried both for the same project; and both have seperate attributes.

However, the major deciding point for me was that users needed to build their own profile page with the installed widgets, had this been different and I may well have continued with elgg.
