Atlas
Public Group active 2 years, 2 months agoOur Mission Statement:
“To discover, develop and support ‘intellectual entrepreneurs’ worldwide who can advance the Atlas vision of a society of free and responsible individuals.”
At Atlas, we believe that our vision of a free society can be achieved through respect for private property rights, limited government under the rule of law, and the market order.
We seek to transform public opinion so one day these principles will become ascendant and replace public policies that only protect the powerful, that cater to vested interests, that create hostility, limit prosperity, and that constrain human expression and opportunity.
To do this, we believe there is a strong need for effective local institutions, dedicated to research, education, and advocacy that will improve the climate of ideas over time. Experience shows that such institutions must be created by local “intellectual entrepreneurs” — individuals who discover a need for a new idea or policy solution and have the talent and willingness to attract resources and allocate them to satisfy that need.
Atlas was founded by an “intellectual entrepreneur” who created the first market-oriented public policy think tank. The model of think tank developed by Antony Fisher — independent, non-partisan, and dedicated to excellent peer-reviewed scholarship —has proven to be successful in many parts of the world and is Atlas’s preferred vehicle for intellectual entrepreneurship.
Nevertheless, there are many factors that occasionally lead intellectual entrepreneurs to embrace other models for affecting change. Atlas believes there is no single best way to have a positive impact on the climate of opinion but that intellectual entrepreneurs should always apply sound business practices to the task of developing and disseminating sound public policy ideas. Atlas best serves its mission of discovering, developing, and supporting intellectual entrepreneurs by leveraging its position at the center of a worldwide movement to bring attention to all sorts of experiments at the task of furthering the free society.
